THE MEDICINE THAT IS ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is part of an integrated system of primary
health care, known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
that has an uninterrupted history of development dating
back thousands of years in China and other parts of East
Asia.
The origins of acupuncture in China can be traced back
at least two thousand years, with an amazingly well
recorded history of experience. Today, acupuncture and
TCM are widely practised throughout the world, with
modern practitioners drawing on the wisdom of the
ancients as well as the benefits offered by modern
advances in research and communications.
Acupuncture takes a holistic approach to understanding
normal function and disease processes and focuses as
much on the prevention of illness as on the treatment.
Since it’s emergence in Australia in the 1970s,
acupuncture has become more and more acceptable to
Western medicine with many Western medical practitioners
now adopting it as part of their treatment repertoire.
Today, in China and many parts of Asia, acupuncture and
TCM work in partnership with modern Western medicine in
many hospital systems.
As a natural form of healing, acupuncture offers the
following benefits:
- provides drug-free pain relief
- effectively treats a wide range of
acute and chronic ailments
- treats the underlying cause of
disease and illness as well as the
symptoms
- provides an holistic approach to
the treatment of disease and illness,
linking body, mind and emotions
- assists in the prevention against
disease and illness as well as the
maintenance of general well-being
